The Phoenix Film Foundation, a 501(c)3 non profit organization, is helping to foster Arizona’s growth in the visual arts with local programs and international acclaim. With multiple arts organizations covered under the foundation’s umbrella, the Phoenix Film Foundation has programs covering the entire cinematic lifecycle - education, professional enrichment, film showcases, and film criticism - all with the purpose of supporting and developing the artistic appreciation, educational opportunities and growth of independent film within Arizona.
MISSION
The Phoenix Film Foundation is dedicated to promoting diversity and education in the arts, elevating underrepresented voices, and driving the growth of independent film in Arizona. Through film showcases and accessible educational initiatives, we cultivate a vibrant, inclusive cinematic community, utilizing it as a catalyst for personal growth, creative expression, and positive social change.
VISION
The Phoenix Film Foundation believes that through the art of film, simple, well-told stories that come from a place of authenticity have the power to elevate the human spirit, break through social and cultural barriers, inspire creativity in people of all ages, and provide a shared communal experience which brings us all closer together.
WHY IS FILM EDUCATION IMPORTANT?
Film is increasingly being recognized by teachers as a valuable tool that can be used to reengage young people with the curriculum and increase their overall motivation for learning.
Filmmaking is a rare, truly collaborative art form. In order to successfully complete a film students, must combine: leadership, artistic creativity, time management, budgeting, social skills through improved interpersonal communication, compromise, technical aptitude, team building skills, analytical thinking and responsibility.
Putting these skills to use in an engaging way helps to reinforce lessons practically — not just in a classroom setting.
We know that making a film is a difficult task.
By overcoming obstacles inherent to every production, students learn to apply skills that will serve them later in life. Whether they grow up to be filmmakers, or pursue a career outside of the arts students take home valuable lessons and skills that will serve them wherever they go. The Foundation's Education Programs are not offered anywhere else in the state, and are a great way to engage and excite students about the art of filmmaking. For many students, these programs not only energize their love of film, but it energizes their love of learning.
